Hey all,

First off I want to apologize for the lack of organization for tonight's mixer. I mean it's good that we found each other finally, but next time we should definitely ask to have a sign or reserved table of some sort. The night went well, and I hope everyone had a great time. It was nice to meet like minded game industry hopefuls, and game developers.

I'm hoping we can do this at least once a month because it was a blast to be at D&B, especially for those who were in crunch because of milestone submissions to our respective publishers. It's a great place to let off some steam. I wondering if we should make the meetings a monthly thing even if they are informal. Any input or opinions definitely welcome.

Anyway, here's some pictures of the meeting. I'd like to apologize in advance for the quality of the shots, but I forgot my 5.0 MP camera in the car. So my 2.0 MP Nokia N75 Camera was the only tool I had on hand. Sad

Some AICA-OC students having a very interesting conversation.

Sean O' Conner (Point of View, Inc) having a shy moment.

This was the UC Irvine part of the table. Everyone put on their best smiles of course.

Sean getting "some" against Aliens in AVP.

Gautim enjoying some 600cc arcade action.

If we do meet again like this, we need SOMETHING more concrete organization-wise, since last night was a hair's breadth from being a total trainwreck. "Wear something gamer-ish", my ass- had I not brought some of my old E3 badges no one would have had anything even remotely gamer-ish on. I passed Xeloj and his buddies like three times wandering the floor- if they hadn't come up to our table after we'd given up looking we'd have never known they were even there. The Art Institute guys wore their AI badges as well, so that's something, but it kind of depresses me when the only people who appear to give a damn about the IGDA meetings aren't even in the game industry...

In any case, thanks to Xeloj for the pictures and Steve from Coresoft for being pretty much the only one who had anything worthwhile to say at the meeting- had he not shown up there pretty much wouldn't have been a point to the thing at all.

Despite the lack of organization...looks like it was still fun. Wish I wouldn't have forgotten, otherwise I woulda been there. Sad

I had a good time. It was nice to meet a few new people Smile I was surprised by the poor turnout, though...especially considering the large population of developers in the area. But I guess it was more of a spur of the moment thing Smile I'll see the rest of you at the next outing I guess Smile

I thought the point was simply to get some folks together, and on that level it succeeded. We easily filled up a long table with people who wanted to chat about game development. If enough people have enough "fun" then these informal gatherings will grow. I'll be going again when I have the opportunity.
