October Event (10/7): Dream Build Play
This month the Rio Grande IGDA chapter looks at Microsoft's tech that has been attracting more people into the world of game development, the XNA Game Studio.
To embrace and cultivate more independent game developers worldwide, Microsoft released the XNA Game Studio, a free software development kit that allows for building games on both PCs and the Xbox 360. Last year, Microsoft held its first competition around the XNA Game Studio entitled Dream Build Play. Winners of this competition receive cash prizes totaling thousands of dollars and a contract to publish their game on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
The Rio Grande IGDA welcomes two independent game developers from Albuquerque who took on the challenge of the 2008 Dream Build Play contest, and will share their experiences in building games and tools around the XNA Game Studio. Luke Nihlen of Tenth Artist will present his entry into the competition, Snare Bears. Also, Curtis Bennett of Abalone Studios will demo his editors for generating visual effects in XNA.
