Any indie - wanna be - potential game developers in SYDNEY
hello all ...
and while excitement builds here in our own glorious briz-vegas for our events and the big GCAP show and the big SLQ show, folks in sydney are just starting to talk about setting up a community - social group along the lines of your IGDA ...
is anyone on these forums in sydney - do reply here ...
(and if you are coming up to the game on industry party, do say hi)
hi darl ...
welcome ... my current plot is to give you all a sydny thread here so you can make a start on a community group ... is there anyone else out there?
Truna speaks the truth.
Any indy or wannabe game devs in Syd - drop us a line & come along -- we're a handful of indy devs looking to join a Sydney-based IGDA-esque chapter. The plan is to meet 1ce a month near the CBD for a drink or two & talk game ideas, workshop indie projects and plot random mayhem over the occasional multiplayer sesh.
Intro yourself here if you'd like to join in & we'll forward details for next month's meet.
Cheers,
Hey all, just throwing my name in the hat for the sydney meet.
I will guarantee that it will be awesome.*
cheers,
termi
*if not a guarantee, at least high hopes
count me in!
cool, looks like we have enough people to get started.
Gotta start small, but if this proves to be a good idea we're sure to grow over time.
Will check with Termi & post later this week with details for a meet in the early-mid december.
Cheers,
Hi all,
I got on the wrong thread about this. Thank you Termi & GraFix for pointing that out for me. Doh!
I am a digital artist, both 2D & 3D. Currently trying to get into the game industry, but also have Game Dev concepts that I want to produce sometime in the future.
Would like to develop these ideas further.
GraFix I will definitely be joining the group and hope more people get in on here and get involved.
Looking forward to meeting more like minded creative people in Sydney.
Hey All!
I'm also in. And I agree, we definitely have enough people for drinks. Does anyone have any venue preferences? Somewhere conducive to conversation is always at the top of my list
there are a couple of decent pubs in the city that are quiet enough to actually talk in, same deal around newtown, i think grafix might have somewhere in mind

=====================================
7pm Thurs Dec 11 The Courthouse Hotel, Newtown.
=====================================
How will you find us in the pub, you ask?
Join the Facebook group - "IGDA Sydney" & you'll know who to look for.
RSVP if you're able, so we know roughly how many seats...
I'll be there. I don't use facebook, mind, so any hints would be appreciated
Woooo! pub crawl.
I look like this:

except, minus the tricycle
Hey there everyone.
Tim "Termi" Grant
Chris "Infin8eye" Lee &
Dan "GraFiX" Graf (Me)
will be at the Courthouse around 7pm.
I'm working late so might be there around 7:15 but Chris will be there on time.
Look for a little "IGDA" sign at the table, that should sort us out from the crowd.
Cheers,
Dan.
I failed
sorry guys...
next time
(double post from other thread)

via the blast theory facebook site - deadline has passed but they are still worth contacting i suggest:
Julianne Pierce sent a message to the members of Blast Theory.

Subject: Blast Theory in Australia - call for local team/volunteers
Blast Theory is coming to Sydney in February 2009 to present Rider Spoke at the Museum of Contemporary Art (in association with British Council and Sydney Foreshore Harbour Authority).
We're looking for a team of capable and enthusiastic local volunteers to work closely with Blast Theory over the 2-week season. Local team members will have demonstrated performing skills, experience working with members of the public, and experience and confidence using bikes.
If you have a background in performance, media or visual arts and want to play an integral part in this project, please send your CV and an expression of interest (300 words max) to Anneke Jaspers at the British Council by December 12th.
Hey whatup
Thought I'd drop a line here.
Good to catch up last week.
IGDA Sydney almost has wings.
Looking forward to the day we have our own chapter (how did Brisneyland beat us to the punch?)
Cheers

Well Brisbane and Melbourne are the centres of game development in Australia. Regrettably Sydney's a little behind the times, but it's good to see they're starting to pick up. I actually moved up from Sydney to Brisbane for my study... then again I was born in Brisbane and always cheered for Queensland in the State of Origin, so I was happy about it.

I am. I'm a 3D modeller and animator.
