Hello everyone, brand new here at IGDA - and I'm glad I stumbled upon you guys.

I'm the executive producer/partner of a small production company located here in Atlanta. We've spent the better part of our career working in various aspects of the TV business (producing short/long form promos, sales pieces, etc.), but with the long term goal to somehow figure out how to get involved doing the same things ... but for the gaming community.

Anyway, we came upon an opportunity to work on our first game this past summer. Almost at the 11th hour we were contacted by Spark Unlimited to help put some finishing touches on Legendary. They had put most of their resources into game mechanics and we were asked to come in and try to make the cut scene slide shows flow a little better. With limited time we did what we could, but are anxiously looking forward to our next project so that we can really showcase our production skills.

Long story short, I was able to move a shoot around at the last minute to free myself up to head out to Las Vegas and attend at least a couple of days of the DICE convention in a couple of weeks. I was just curious if anyone from the Atlanta area was planning on attending ... because ... it clearly makes a hell of a lot more sense to get together about 1,700 miles away rather than just meet downtown for a beer or two doesn't it?

Anyway - sorry this has gotten a bit long - but I'd love to hear from anyone here who may have any advice on possible networking events in the area ... or if you want to just get together to bounce some ideas off each other - I'm always game.

Hope to talk to some of you soon ... take care,

I'm not going to DICE, but I will be heading out to the Game Developers Conference in San Fran in March. If that's on your radar, we could definitely meet up then.

As for local networking, the Georgia Game Developers Association has meetings every second Tuesday. You can get the details and location at ggda.org under Events.

In the meantime, welcome aboard!

Kevin thanks so much for the reply man - great to hear from you.

I'll definitely be checking out when/where the next event is ... in fact right about after I hit Submit on this reply ... are you planning on going to the meeting this coming Tuesday (I'm assuming that's when the next one would be).

Let me know -

Have a great weekend,
Jeff

Unfortunately, I teach Tuesday nights this quarter, so I will not be at any meetings until after GDC.

Hey you know what - I'm actually reconsidering attending the San Fran conference or at least part of it. There is a production company we've done some work with in the past located out there in San Fran ... so ... maybe why not make an unplanned visit out there.

I wouldn't be heading to the whole conference - most likely interested in the Wed-Fri pass - but let me know if you are going to be there for sure and I'd love to meet up - I mean - it would just be boring to meet up in Atlanta ... don't you think?

Take care and I hope you are well,
Jeff
