It's come to my attention that we had two separate threads for offering suggestions to to improve the local development community, so I thought I'd do a little spring cleaning and open a new, single thread for efficiency's sake.

I'm also taking down some of the good suggestions in the older threads so we can keep track of them.

I'd vote for a database first. This is my number one concern. I don't see a problem with regards to flying over to cebu or davao. I travel frequently and in my experience - finding out where and who to meet is my number one hurdle.

Where are all the local games? That usually helps kick enthusiasm, particiption, and discussion up a notch.

A couple things I'd be interested in seeing are game developer ateliers, or game-in-a-day events. There are some great off-the-shelf game engines out there that a small talented bunch could make a great XBL-like or browser-based game out of . (Unity, C4, Torque Game Builder, etc.). Equip and empower the local devs with a good set of tools, and see what comes out of it.

IGDA Manila needs a mailing list!

On ugotgame:

a) why there are cosplayers on the venue (nothing wrong with that. I enjoyed their community)

b) more time was assigned to the Rose game (nothing wrong with that also. They ARE the sponsors)

c) the hour when the event was opened. I'm not sure if its because the site is still being set up or because they are waiting for more people to arrive, but I spent 5 hours in a bus and was hoping to do networking before the event.

In short, the event could have been better if it wasn't so confusing.

1. One would be surprised how difficult for some/most people to shell out 1k for a gathering.
2. Communities are like mushrooms... We started out here, then moved on the PF.net, then went back here. The important thing is that somehow we find each other again.
3. I would like to actually see some of the "industry veterans" to have greater involvement in these small meetings. Sure they may find it trivial but I feel that a casual setting for novice/beginning developers to interact ask questions with other more experienced developers would greatly improve this communication gap we are having.

Re: having a game seminar at DLSU

I think it's a great idea. We can have a joint project with the Game Lab or some other organization. It can be a seminar open to students and enthusiasts. A small fee might be needed for the use of facilities, but we can work out the details offline.

Re: Advisory board for IGDA

I think we had this set-up before. I remember being part of it but I don't think we did much since people were concentrating on setting-up GDAP already during that time.
