Cold Case, an independent campaign for Left 4 Dead!
Hi everybody,
Before I start, I would like to thank Barry Caudill for giving me some fantastic support, and telling me about this site. Even though it doesn't seem like much, just knowing it's possible helped me make this campaign.

Cold Case is a highly innovative Left 4 Dead campaign being developed by mrfranswa. It is scheduled for release on Halloween 2009.
Cold Case pits the survivors in yet another scenario. Their ride to safety has mysteriously crash landed on a remote island somewhere in the north western United States. After hours of waiting, they decide they are the only four survivors from the terrible crash, and they need to find help. However, quickly they realize there is something terribly wrong with this place. The survivors must traverse a large and expansive island. Their goal? To meet up with fellow survivors and get to the only known safe zone; a small military base located on the opposite shore of the island. Only there can they finally find the salvation they desperately are searching for…. or will they?
During their journey, the survivors solve many strange mysteries that surround them. Why did their transport suddenly crash? Why are the infected on this island so quickly mutating? Who is The Mayor, and what role does he play on this island? Who is Agent Orange? It is up to them to find the clues and escape from the infested island.
Features
Dynamically evolving zombies
The infection is unstable and reactive. The zombies progressively become faster, tougher, and more aware of their surroundings through the campaign. Boss zombies also become more frequent.
Upgrades
Expect to spend your time hunting for the upgrade tables. By doing so you can upgrade different things about yourself. Between accuracy, speed, and revival amounts you will need them to survive.
Storyline
Expect a rich and detailed storyline featuring numerous recordings by voice actors, (and myself).
MASSIVE CONTENT!
36 maps in total!
* 6 full map campaign featuring hours of gameplay
* 10 survival maps with dynamically changing atmospheres. Hold some points while wave's of infected tear it down, while others force you to run for your life to get to better positions.
* 2 separate 5 map versus / co-op campaigns. Cold Case: Covert Operations, and Cold Case: The Forsaken
Maps
The Prison
(l4d_cc1) - Basically a hyper-evolved dm_lockdownX2. This is the first map of the series, and will have the players traverse it very much like traditional L4D maps. This means basic Point A-to-B gameplay with only a few areas of item hunting and backtracking.

The Overgrown Facility
(l4d_cc2) - The Overgrown Facility is an abandoned factory somewhere in the forest separating Liberty City, and The Prison. The survivors must traverse through a dense forest to reach the only known safe zone on the island.

The Butcher's Game
(l4d_cc3) - Known only as "The Mayors Residence" in recordings, a lot of strange activities have gone on inside the house. The survivors soon realize that one of their most deadly adversaries is not the horde.

The Brutal Outcome
(l4d_cc4) - Things start going down hill for the survivors, and the futility of surviving the horde's onslaught becomes more apparent. Here the players will explore the shipping district of Liberty City. This section of the city is on the outskirts of the town, and is the last known quarantine zone left within the city.

The Source
(l4d_cc5) - The survivors final destination is a small military outpost. Upon venturing deeper inside, the survivors begin to realize that truth is a relative term…

I love VALVe titles, because they really know how to make a great video game. I have basically been working overtime over the past 8 months to finish this campaign for Halloween. I am hoping to use this experience to get a leg up in finding a job. Not only does this include level design, but modeling, texturing, sound editing, team management, public relations, and a whole lot more. I'm also doing this on absolutely no budget while trying to juggle my home life, and being a full time student.
I would really appreciate any feedback I can receive from members on this forum. I know a lot of you work in the video game industry, and I want to market myself as a unique developer who is highly flexible, and can produce content that puts paid developers to shame. I am also looking for professional beta testers who can help me find bugs for my upcoming release event.

Thanks for posting this! I was planning on taking a look at this weekend (providing I have the time).
I definitely would like to encourage anyone who has any side projects and wants feedback, or just has something cool they would like to share to post on the forums.
Brett
Actually this is not my side project. This is my main project. Currently I am in the process of obtaining a more professional site. I am also in talks with the head of l4dmods.com to try and start the p.r. campaign for this release. Lastly, I am trying to get into contact with XGames and inquire about obtaining a booth to exhibit the campaign.
The campaign won't be publicly distributed until Halloween, however I would gladly give beta-test privileges to interested members on the igda forums.
If I'm going to try and obtain a job in the video game industry, I might as well go all out right?

Oh don't get me started about time I've spent on this...

The maps look pretty cool, and the videos showed some pretty intresting encounters in the spaces you have created.
Did you create any new assets for the mode, or did you end up re-using ones for L4D?
Brett
Everything is recycled from source mods. I was planning on having a lot of new content, however there was simply not enough time in the day to do all of that work :P. Maybe if I had a team....

Yesterday was my meeting with TUGO, Towson Universitie's gaming organization. It went very well. To be frank, they were a little surprised how professional I was about giving the presentation, and exactly how much content has been finished.
I will probably also sell various other things at my table, such as gaming cases, t-shirts, and other pieces of art to recoup some of the money I'm spending on the event :P

Sorry for the non-news updates, but that is because I've been so busy.
I've made a moddb profile for my campaign. I will be up keeping that since it gets more traffic. I will be setting up shop in the artists section, (only table I could afford on a student's budget). Once they give me a definitive table number, I will let you guys know where I will be exactly!

Just so everyone is aware, I am an actual game designer, and not some bot. I would really appreciate any help from people on the forums in terms of telling me how I should show this off, or present this for my future portfolio. As many of you already know, the video game industry is a very hard industry to get in to!
