FYI
I'm surprised no one has posted this yet. Ubisoft head will be in the panel. Good networking opportunities.

Ya. I'm looking forward to the competition. Judges look pretty well rounded this year.
Hopefully Kevin O'Leary isn't as mean as he is on Dragon's Den :P

Hey guys when you are registering for Vortex 2009, you can use your IGDA membership to get a 50% discount when registering. Use this code: "vortexigda". You may be asked to verify your IGDA membership number (the one that appears on your IGDA membership card).
Vortex was really fun and informative last time, and looks the same way this time around. Blake Lewin's talk last time around was awesome. Actually most of the presenters were really strong and interesting.

There does not seem to be an option to enter the competition without paying for the bootcamp.

It was the same way in previous years.

From what I understand. If you want to enter the contest you need to be present (physically) at the seminar. They typically cover developing in the game business to working on pitches as well as some other interesting topics. It's pretty good networking too.
If you aren't entering though. I think they are webcasting this one.

Does anyone know how long the networking reception for the VGC will go to on Thursday Oct 8th, and if it will conflict with the IGDA meeting?
Ah, looks like the VGC moved its dates. It's now Nov 3-5, the boot camp being the 3rd and the competition itself, 4th-5th.
That's great news. Now I don't need to decide if I should go to next Thursday's meeting or the boot camp. It's looking like I'll be able to attend both.

Thanks for passing that along. Their Boot Camp sounds like an interesting event to attend, even if you don't enter the competition.
