IGDA OC November: Choplifter HD Post-Mortem Panel Discussion

This month's IGDA meeting is hosted is being hosted at Obsidian Entertainment, which will include a 1-hour post-mortem discussion on inXile's new game: Choplifter HD.

 

The discussion will be led by Jairo Silva, Lead Designer of Choplifter HD, and two of his colleagues from the project.

Westwood College Video Game Legends Event & 2D Game Awards

Westwood College is again bringing together some of the interactive entertainment industry’s most accomplished professionals to share their knowledge and experience!

IGDA OC Rebooted!

Huge thanks to all who showed up to last night's IGDA OC Reboot Meeting at Obsidian Entertainment, where Todd Northcutt, VP GameSpy Technology at IGN, recapped his well-received GDC Online talk on why  "Leaderboards Can Suck It." 
 
A very special thank you to our hosts, Feargus Urquhart and Jim Rivers from Obsidian Entertainment, and Dan Maas from GameSpy Technology for driving the whole reboot, and organizing yummy snacks and drinks!
 
For those of you who missed out, don't worry, we're planning to hold regular meetings on the last Tuesday of every month, initially at the same venue.  So stay tuned for these upcoming events!  And we're always on the lookout for good speakers, so if you know of someone who'd be interested

OC Chapter Meeting Report - April 2010

The Orange County chapter of the IGDA convened at the local campus of the Art Institute on April 20 for a largely student-focused meeting. The topic: explore various core elements critical for successfully managing a game studio.

Obsidian Entertainment hosted a capacity crowd at the February chapter meeting for the OC IGDA, with 140+ local developers and students  turning out for a highly entertaining panel discussion on the topic of "Creative Writing in Video Games."

OC Chapter Meeting Report - January 2010

Attendance was good for the January meeting of the IGDA's Orange County chapter, with lots of folks coming out in the rain to spend time with like-minded souls. The meeting started off with announcements and the welcoming of the chapter's new Board of Directors:

November Chapter Meeting - Hosted by Ready at Dawn Studios

Join us for our November chapter meeting hosted at Ready at Dawn Studios.   The evening will focus on a round table discussion regarding Audio Design in Video Games Today and in the Future.  Our panel includes a great list of music composers and audio designers within the industry.

Independent Game Conference West

November 5-6, 2009, Los Angeles, CA: The Independent Game Conference West is a 2 day, 5 track conference for game developers in the tradition of the DevCons of old where speakers are accessible and connections are key.  Now in its 4th year, the IGC series is coming to the west coast with tracks on Programming, Design, iPhone/Mobile, Social Gaming, and Business/Production, with a variety of sessions that will benefit game companies of all size

October Chapter Meeting - An Evening with Obsidian Entertainment CEO, Feargus Urquhart

Join us in October for our monthly IGDA chapter meeting. During this meeting we will be discussing the next steps for formalizing and establishing our group as an official chapter with the IGDA.

We are also extremely excited to announce our topic and special guest speaker. This month we will welcome Obsidian Entertainment CEO, Feargus Urquhart as he discusses with us Contracts within the gaming industry.

Current Chapter Status and Next Steps

The IGDA Orange County Chapter is currently rebooting and restructuring through the process of establishing the group as an official IGDA chapter. Our last two meetings have already demonstrated great progress with getting the chapter back on track. We are excited about the upcoming changes and new growth and look forward to reconnecting with everyone.
