Comments broken

It looks like the ability to comment on posts is down. While we're working on getting it restored, you can post to the IGDA fourms or contact me at vance(at)firewatergames.com.

Local game companies

If you're doing game or simulation development in the Philadelphia area, we'd love to hear from you. We're on the prowl for speakers for upcoming meetings and are looking to expand the community.

December meeting scheduled

Check out the meeting announcement category for information on the December meeting. Also, the recap of the September meeting is up; sorry for the long delay, I was busy getting ready for the Serious Game Summit and was then attacked by a nasty case of strep throat.

December meeting

The next meeting will be on December 16th from 7:00 - 10:00PM at the Victor Lofts meeting rooms. I'd like to hold three 45 minute roundtable discussions and am looking for people who are interested in leading topics. If you would like to lead one of the discussions, shoot me an email describing the topic at vance(at)firewatergames.com.

After the roundtables have wrapped up, there will be an after meeting holiday party from 10:00 - 12:00 Smile.

September Meeting

The September meeting was held outside of the Cosi coffee house near the University of Penn. We discussed episodic content, the evolution of content delivery and its effects on indie and mainstream development. There seemed to be general agreement that an episodic medium has several advantages including the ability to customize the player's experience based on information retrieved from previous episodes. This could be extended to evolutionary game design where play mechanics that are underused or frustrating can be dropped from future episodes.

We also talked about ways to improve the visibility of the chapter. It was decided that regular meetings were key to increasing attendance so we're going to hold meetings on a bi-monthly basis (more or less) and advertise upcoming meetings on the IGDA site and community sites.

Overall it was a good meeting and I look forward to meeting more of you in December.
