IGDA Site Frustration - Please join on facebook

As many of you have seen in the past several days, managing changes to events via the IGDA website is a nontrivial challenge. What you didn't see was that each time I needed to make a change on the group home, I actually had to create a new event and cancel the old event since changing the date or time caused the SQL query to time out. As such, I'd like us to try and move to the facebook site, in the footsteps of the global organization. Please join the DC Metro chapter here:

and the Global Boat here:

You can also follow us on twitter:

Obviously the chapter page will remain, but I think it'll be easier to communicate with the group through more modern social media means.

Tonight's Meeting Canceled

I'm sorry to have to do this, but I'm going to cancel our meeting tonight because I don't want people risking life and limb to get to GB which itself might even be closed.  Since the roads are already pretty bad and we anticipate getting up to another 9 inches, let's hold off on this meeting.  The venue has served us well for the past 5 months but given the growth of our chapter and its forays into other activities (like the Global Game Jam), we are reconsidering our meeting strategy.  Look for another meeting to occur at GMU later this month, the date of which will likely set the course for the coming months' meeting schedules.

Happenings of meeting on 10 Nov 2009

Greeting DC & Vicinity members,

Well, we had a pretty good turnout on Tues, 10 Nov 2009 when we met at Tyson's Corner for some beers and food at Gordon Biersch.  Thanks go to Trey Reyher for keeping the fire lit from the last meeting while we all caught up and also to Ross Dannenberg for help in "sponsoring" the event.  Many topics were discussed as we witnessed a traditional Redskins autograph signing during the evening.  Our next meeting is being scheduled for around 8 Dec 2009, but details are not set yet.

DC Chapter asked for help in upcoming non-profit conference

Hey DC Gamers,

Though I'm not the official president of the chapter or anything, my name seems to be on the admin label.  Oh well, the DC chapter has been asked to help provide speakers to an upcoming non-profit orgranization who is sponsoring a conference to our area youth discussing gaming careers.  The organization is Patriots Technology Training Center and they have a gaming day on Dec 12.  I know some of the recent gamers in the area had a social recently in Tyson's Corner, but I wanted to get the word out.

Regrouping of DC Metro area gamers

Greetings and welcome to the DC chapter!  We are in the process of regrouping, so please drop us a line and let us know what you would like to see happening here in the Metro area.
