Letter from the Editor

In this issue of the IGDA Online Games Quarterly, we focus on technology, discussing the topic with developers, publishers, and service providers in the persistent world and casual game segments of the game industry.

Technology is a driving force in the game industry and one that demands our attention at every step in the process of bringing a game to market; from the early stages of concepting up until the players are actually interacting with the product. Tools, IDEs, third-party engines, middleware, and product delivery mechanisms are all continuously evolving and presenting us with new choices that can affect our businesses in dramatic ways. In this issue, we talk with some of our industry peers about the choices they are making.

In other news, the Online Games SIG is also evolving; two new Special Interest Groups have been formed. a new Casual Games SIG will provide greater focus on web/downloadable games. This new SIG will produce its own quarterly publication, the Casual Games Quarterly, which will be available here: http://www.igda.org/casual/. A Mobile Games SIG has also been created and will also produce its own publications, which will be available at http://www.igda.org/mobile. After this issue, the Online Games Quarterly will be focused entirely on persistent world games and will continue to available at this location.

Thanks!
