OverviewLike any organization, the lifeblood of the International Game Developers Association is the people who get involved. From the board of directors and the operations staff, to the web maintainers and fundraisers, to the newsletter coordinators and the volunteers who run chapters and help run conventions, every person has a role. Without them, the IGDA could not accomplish their goal of serving any and all who work within the global video game industry.
When information moves practically at the speed of thought and technology can change just as quickly, it can be difficult to keep your edge. IGDA offers you ways to stay up-to-date on the tools, skills, and resources you need to adapt and grow as a professional. As a member, you’ll get access to discounts exclusive to our organization. Examples of past deals include CoronaSDK Pro, Cloud Gaming USA, GameDevMasters, and Razer.
Going it alone isn’t always easy, and navigating your way through any professional landscape (whether you’re new or not) can be frustrating. IGDA can help you with making the connections you’ll need to not just make it in the video games industry, but thrive. If you’re looking for something broad, you can find your local IGDA Chapter and immerse yourself in the game development scene near you. Or, if you’d like to talk shop with people in your particular field of interest, take a look at our growing number of Special-Interest Groups and commune with your professional peers from around the world.
Sometimes, you’ll need to network face-to-face, or you’ll want to attend (or give) a talk at one of the industry’s many conferences around the globe. Another perk of IGDA membership is the Event & Conference Discounts program. For every professional event you’ve ever heard of (and probably some you haven’t), there’s a discount code for it. Previously discounted events and conferences include IGF, GDC, GDC Europe, E3, NAB Show, Neurogaming Conference, Social Gambling & Gaming Summit, Nordic Game Conference, Inside Social Apps, SIGGRAPH, TVConnect, and many more.
Stay InformedKeeping up with the news is a job in and of itself, and while there are many publications out there to choose from, the IGDA Perspectives Newsletter has some of the best content around. Every month, you can read such on-going columns as Culture Clash (by Matt Sakey), Famous Last Words (by Jim Charne), and The Game's Game (by Tom Sloper). In addition to this regularly schedule content, you’ll often see unique pieces submitted by other members of the community, as well as have access to papers and special reports from the IGDA’s various advocacy groups.
