Next Philly IGDA Meeting Will Be August 29th, 2009

Our next meeting will be held at Levine Hall on Penn's campus, starting in room 307. It will consist of 4 roundtable discussions, each taking place in a separate room (we will split after everyone has met in 307). Also, Joshua Caulfield, the new Executive Director of the IGDA, will be in attendance.

* 5:30 - Sign-in and social time

* 6:00 - Chapter business

* 6:15 - Break into Groups and move to appropriate rooms

* 6:30 - Roundtable discussions begin

Roundtable 1: Art :: Polish: The Second 95%
Will Stallwood from Cipher Prime and Jon Demos from Three Rings will be talking about the role polish plays in a game's development and presentation. Topics will include when to apply the polish in the development stages, how polish affects the player's perception of the game, and examples of games that exude polish in their presentation.

Roundtable 2: Design :: Gameplay and the tyranny of fun. Telling stories with game mechanics.

Roundtable 3: Programming :: TBD

Roundtable 4: Starting Your Own Game Studio
Damon Alberts, President of Burst Online Entertainment, will provide insight on the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in the interactive software entertainment industry as well as a review of the necessary steps one must take to increase their chances of success. The roundtable will be a discussion format and Q&A covering everything from business plans to target audiences, product differentiation, technology, law, design, and distribution. Content will be tailored to the group in attendance and Damon will provide a one-page take away with recommended reading and resources.

* 6:45-7:00 - Food arrives

* 7:30 - Regroup in main meeting room

* 7:45 - Groups give a 5 minute recount of the issue discussed

* 8:05 - Closing remarks

* 8:15 - Meeting is over, but attendees may decide to go somewhere to eat/drink.
