States attempt to protect kids from adult-content Spam

From Wall Street Journal Online:

Lawmakers in Utah and Michigan have moved aggressively to shield children from spam promoting pornography, alcohol and other adults-only products. The states have created registries of kids' email addresses and bar businesses, located in state or not, from sending inappropriate sales pitches to minors.

Naturally, many communities are up in arms about these laws for reasons ranging from free speech, to difficulty with compliance, to security issues.

The article goes on to say that violators would face stiff penalties. Har.
