Absolute Obedience Goes Gold

From the PR wire...

JAST USA announces that the upcoming title Absolute Obedience had been declared “golden master” and would begin shipping in the coming weeks. Their newest interactive dating-sim game for adults, Absolute Obedience is a "yaoi" (yah-OH-ee) title, the word describing anime and comics that focus on relationships between men.

The game, an interactive dating-sim for Windows computers intended for adults aged 18 and older, is the latest English-translated PC title released in the U.S.

While the majority of JAST USA’s releases have been traditional PC dating-sims which feature interaction between a male player and attractive female game characters, the popularity of yaoi anime and manga today has caused massive customer interest in games involving stories with male characters.

In the game, set in a fictional version of West Germany in the post-World War II period, the player chooses one of two roles, the refined Louise Hardwich or the rough-and-tumble Kia WelBenneh, and must play through a dozen missions which involve bringing down a “target” and making a sexual conquest, while solving a mystery at the same time. The potential target missions include a KGB spy, a Saudi prince, a young Mafia boss, an officer in the West German military, and so on. Each mission is a mini-game with several different outcomes, from rank A (the best ending) to rank D (the “bad ending” in which the player becomes the target).

Although the games feature male/male couplings, a majority of consumers of yaoi anime and manga have traditionally been females, with approximately 80% or more of customers at anime conventions or online shops being female.

Ever since the first computers with color displays, Japan has had a strong culture of “love simulation” computers games, which simulate sexual interaction between the player and various game characters when the player “wins” the love of a given character. PC dating-sim games are often referred to “hentai” or “H” games by U.S. fans. JAST USA/PCR Distributing has been involved in licensing and translating Japanese dating-sim games since 1998, and is the leading producer and distributor of English-language PC games for adults in any form. The company has a catalog of over 50 English translated games with every theme from maids to “cat girls” and more.
