Congratulations to Troels Folmann, winner of Green-Ear Gaming Network’s survey drawing! Troels wins a $200 Best Buy card.
Dear San Francisco IGDA Members,
Thank you to Crystal Dynamics and all those who attended the first meeting of the new San Francisco IGDA chapter. Thank you also to our sponsors, without whom the night would not have been possible. We were thrilled with the event. It was a wonderful start to the now officially re-booted San Francisco IGDA chapter.
In preparing the next event, we would love to have your feedback. Please visit our forum to have your say. We would also like to hear your ideas for the future: what topics interest you, how we can improve the format of the meetings, etc.
As an extension of this effort to afford members greater influence over the content within the SF IGDA, we would like to announce that we are taking presentation proposals. This is open to anyone in any field of video game development. Whether it be a 10 minute talk, full hour lecture or panel discussion, the content and the format of the presentation is entirely up to you.
Please mail all submissions to igda.sf (at) gmail.com.
We look forward to bringing you details on the next event soon. If you would like to see an event report for the May event please visit our forums.
Green-Ear Gaming Network had surveys at the event to gather feedback on the needs of game developers. The company has provided voice technologies for various markets for the past six years and is branching out into technology for games, such as easily integrated voice and hosted multiplayer opportunities. Their developer survey will be available through May 30, 2008, and one lucky participant will win a $200 Best Buy Card. The winner will be notified by email and announced on the IGDA-SF website.
Cheers,
-The San Francisco IGDA Organizers-

Next IGDA San Francisco Meeting, May 7
Published by April 7th, 2008 in Meeting Announcement. 5 CommentsDear San Francisco IGDA Members,
Over the past few months a small group of San Francisco developers has been working together to revive the San Francisco IGDA. That’s right, the IGDA’s once-dormant San Francisco chapter has awakened.
We’re thrilled to announce that the first meeting will take place at Dolby Labs on Wednesday, May 7th.
We have some very cool stuff cooking up for this event, but we can’t give you all the details just yet. For now, mark the day on your calendar and we’ll update you with all the juicy particulars very soon.
So, why has it taken so long to get this train back on track? There are two main reasons.
For one thing, we basically had to recreate the chapter from the ground up: new volunteers, new sources of funding, a new location for events - the works.
We also wanted to make sure we would provide something the local game-dev community can really use. We didn’t want to offer another “meet-up” event. There are already a couple of good ones. We want the new SF IGDA chapter to not only match, but exceed the quality of the previous incarnation. Through presentations, panels, and other events, our goal is to facilitate the communication of new ideas, promote discussions within the development community and provide a forum for networking and knowledge-sharing.
We hope this sounds good to you, and we’d love to hear your feedback.
We look forward to sharing more details about the May 7th event very soon. Don’t forget to mark your calendar.
Cheers,

Charlie from Unknown Worlds has started a new informal group for game developers in the SF area. It’s called SF Portmortem.
http://www.unknownworlds.com/postmortem
It even sports a slick new web site. Many thanks Charlie!
We would also like to mention that Casey from Crystal Dynamics organizes the SF Game Development Meetup.com meetings. It’s been active since 2002.
SF IGDA Meetup Date Change - Wednesday May 30th
Published by May 25th, 2007 in Uncategorized. 0 CommentsSince it’s a holiday weekend and many of us are still coming back from trips on Tuesday, let’s meet Wednesday May 30th instead! Other details are the same: Thirsty Bear, 7 PM, bring portable gaming fun, bring a friend.
See you there!
Dear Members,
Our old hangout, LJ’s, has closed - but that can’t stop us! Let’s get
to know each other again.
Come out next Tuesday, May 29th, 7 PM for drinks and talking to The
Thirsty Bear ( http://www.thirstybear.com/) - 662 Howard Street, SF.
Bring your DS and your PSP so we can throw down some ad hoc
tournaments if the mood strikes us. Grab a beer from downstairs and
then come on upstairs where it’s a little quieter! Pool tables for
those who enjoy non-electronic games. Look for Jane or Michael to
check in and say hi! Bring a friend, or two, or several!
Cheers,
Michael, Jen, Robin, and Jane
I’ve gotten some inquiries from people wondering if the SF Chapter is still alive. Yes it is! We are currently contacting sponsors and venues to find the exact right place for our next meeting. It’s a challenge because we want it to be affordable but also, you know, cool.
If you’d like to help, or if you have suggestions, please comment; or, email me: jane.IGDA(at)gmail.com.
The IGDA SF site is currently undergoing a site redesign, and a meeting announcement is soon to come. If you would like to receive announcements via email, please join our mailing list. Thanks for your patience!
