Welcome!

What is the Student Action SIG (SASIG)?

The IGDA Student Action SIG was created to get students involved in the game industry on various levels and to offer them the information and resources they need to become productive members of the game industry after graduation. We feel it is important to get students involved at an early stage. This way we can ensure the future success of the industry. We can also promote new educational and research programs.

The Student Action Special Interest Group was established because many high school and college students are confused about opportunities available to them in the game industry. They either make the wrong decisions or give up in the face of overwhelming odds. This SIG would be able to ensure that students worldwide are fully knowledgeable about their career and education options in the game industry. This will produce better prepared and more educated developers which will benefit the entire industry. This outreach will encapsulate the old outreach programs and reinvigorate them.

Students need ways to approach professional developers, academic institutions, possible funding sources, and other students in order to produce effective organizations and academic programs. There is currently no standard way to approach these groups. Furthermore, there is no central area for students to go to for information of this type, something this SIG would hope to provide. Students need to communicate with each other in order to grow as individual groups as well as provide a single front from which issues can be handled.

The IGDA and this SIG would provide a name and an organized structure from which change could be accomplished.
