Studio Affiliate Registration

The Studio Affiliation Program is designed as a valuable benefit for studio managers to present to their development teams. By joining the Studio Affiliation Program, a studio provides all of its employees with personal IGDA memberships, which encourages them to get involved in the community and gives them access to individual member benefits. In addition, Studios are recognized for supporting the Community.

Developing your Team

It goes without saying that your most valuable asset is your team. As a Studio Affiliate all of your employees become personal IGDA members, and receive all of the great benefits of being a full IGDA member, allowing them to connect with their peers and grow professionally and personally.

By signing up as a Studio Affiliate, you are supporting the IGDA financially, but more importantly, you are standing behind the IGDA's mission and goal to improve the game development industry. To recognize this support, Studio Affiliates can take advantage of the following:

Studio Affiliation Mini-FAQ

Who/what can become a Studio Affiliate?:
All entities engaged in the development of digital games are eligible to sign up for the Studio Affiliation Program.

Can we join if the studio is owned by, or is part of, a larger company?:
Yes. Subsidiaries and wholly owned studios are able to join (eg, a studio owned by a publisher). The key is that there is some sense of delineation from the studio/employees and the owning company. A department within a larger company is not eligible.

Can I sign up my company as a Studio Affiliate if we do not actually make games?:
No. Perhaps you should look into becoming an IGDA Partner.

Does this mean all my employees become personal IGDA members at no additional cost?:
Yes. Once a Studio becomes an Affiliate, studio employees are enrolled as personal IGDA members at no additional cost.

Are these employee memberships different in any way from regular IGDA memberships?:
No. Employees who become personal IGDA members via their Studio are exactly the same as all other memberships. (They just don't have to pay for it.)

How do I determine the "headcount" of my studio?:
We recommend that you count full-time staff directly involved in game production (eg, programmers, artists, producers, audio, QA, etc). In the end, this is really up to you to decide. Some studios opt not to include administrative or part-time/contract staff.

Must I count ALL of my production staff?:
Yes. All production staff must be factored into your headcount. You cannot limit/decide who within the company gets the personal memberships (eg, only programmers or only those with 2 years experience, etc). The IGDA is based on the value of inclusiveness and memberships should be not used for internal company politics: If the studio joins, everyone joins! (That said, as noted above, you do have the option in deciding to count contract/part-time developers or administrative staff.)

Do I ever have to renew my Studio in the Affiliation Program?:
Yes. Studios will be required to renew on a yearly basis (ie, one year from the month joined) to continue enjoying the benefits of the Affiliation Program. A reminder will be sent before your expiration date.

How do employees get their personal IGDA membership?:
Once your studio has been registered in the Studio Affiliation Program, you will be sent details on how to register all of your employees. In short, you send us a staff list that we manually add to the member database. Each employee receives a welcome email and note that their personal membership comes courtesy of their studio :)

What happens if my headcount changes over the year?:
Depends. When you first register the studio, the Studio Fee is based on your current headcount - and, we'll be sure to verify that when you submit your employee roster (see previous answer). If the additions fall within the your headcount bracket (see fee schedule above), you can simply inform us and we'll add them to the database. If your studio goes through massive expansion, you can just wait until it is time to renew the studio and set the appropriate headcount at that time. (If you don't want to wait for your studio's renew date, we can work something out...)

What payment options are available?:
You can pay with a major credit card when you apply, or ask to be invoiced and pay via check or wire transfer. Simply make the desired selection on the application form. Review the payment details page for further information.

What if I have more questions, or want more info?:
Do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
