[edit] IGDA News and Updates
- "Brian"
- Funding
- IGDA corporate will begin distributing some of its funding to individual SIGS based on Member involvement
- Total budget is around $8K oer year
- IGDA is trying to formalizing chapter and SIG structure
- The intention is to clarify, address international challenges, considering alternative chapter structures
- This may mean more formality in elections, leadership positions, etc.
- Casual SIG is shining start of IGDA
- we have raised money, have a large membership base, are well organized, etc.
- IGDA is considering a membership drive – encouraging lurkers to become members
- benefits include a richer community, more money for SIG, etc.
- Steering committee: want to encourage more people to consider running
- need to make a make a more concerted effort to recruit fresh blood
- Should we get representation from more groups – online, flash, advergames, web developers, MMOs, etc.?
- could branching out cause more fracturing of initiatives?
- "Need to increase focus, not the opposite"
- number does matter - we are looking for quality and depth
- with that said, we have to watch the total number
- Consider creating status (e.g., Ambassador) for people who are active but not necessarily on Steering Committee
- we should try to get better coverage on areas that we already claim to cover, but don’t really (e.g., web games)
- Steering Committee's Goal: Affect community in a positive way
- Action Items
- Everyone: Bring a few names for the next meeting
- Everyone: identify different groups we want represented
