International Game Developers Association

E for All Expo has allowed the GA SIG to have a booth for us to use during the four days of the expo. Go to http://www.eforallexpo.com for info on travel, hotels, etc.

Our primary goal will be to talk to gamers and developers about how to make "Games for All" -- It doesn't matter whether someone is a hardcore player, a novice, young or old, disabled or not, all SHOULD be able to enjoy the positive things that playing games offers!

Below are tasks that we all need to do in order to get ready for the conference.

I also have a whole handful of free passes that we need to give out ASAP to people and I was thinking we should try and give them out to some groups for the disabled. It would be awesome to have some more gamers with disabilities showing off some of the equipment and, well, representing!

We need to think quickly about signage (on the cheap) and if there's any way we can get some giveaways for the booth (candy, pens with the SIG site on it, something we can get a lot of on the cheap). I do have a budget for some of this but we need to move fast if we are going to get things printed up in time.

I was also thinking that we should all have t-shirts (hats too?) that we could make through Cafe Press. I'd like us to have something that says "Games for All? All MEANS All!" and perhaps some of the graphics that Richard has made (or if someone has some mad skills in the design department go for it!)

Also, now is the time to start culling together all the press contacts we have. I have a lot and I know all of you have some too. E for All will help us advert to the press who are at the show -- I'm hoping we can get some G4 coverage.

We should also plan out a schedule for each day -- ie, something where people can know to return to the booth a 4pm to see a demo/presentation of a head tracker or quad controller. I'm asking our Wired News contact about getting a BCI controller from some of the companies planning to go forward with Brain controlled games next summer for the mainstream. I'm also asking our friends at BrainFingers.

I was just about to send an email about that -- We actually only have a little more than a week. I'm filling out a bunch of forms and getting everyone registered at this very moment, as that deadline is tomorrow.

Eelke -- could you put up a list of what accessibility equipment you are able to bring? I'll then look it over so that I can try and figure out what I have that you don't and then we can talk about what we will actually bring (we probably want to have enough with us to mix things up so that there's something new a couple times a day).

I know Eitan is having a tough time posting to the wiki -- Eitan -- just email me with info you want to add.

So one quick thing via email -- Can ANYONE quickly design a flier with the SIG info and such or even just get it started with a nice looking template? If I don't hear from anyone about this by Wednesday, I'll need to do it myself (ie, it won't be great but it will have to do) and get it to the printer ASAP.

In the meantime I'm doing a conference call tomorrow with the "what we MUST know about our booth at E for All" at the 11th hour...this will finally tell us about the set up of the booth plus how I should best create the booth signage. As soon as I can (I teach tomorrow so it won't be right away) I'll put it on the wiki and ping the list.

As for coverage for the booth, I will post an initial shift schedule. There is no need for everyone to be there at every minute (booth isn't big enough anyway and it would trash our being able to network). We have Eitan plus 3 others from MIT, 6 of my students from UIUC, Eelke, Reid, and I who will be there. So that's 13 of us available, although some will only be there for 1 or 2 days.
