[edit] Meeting Attendees

Michelle Hinn; Reid Kimball; Thomas Westin; Kevin Bierre

[edit] Meeting Agenda

  • Gamasutra Article: Michelle is tracking down Steve Wetherill (EA), who wrote one-switch air-hockey, and Peter Molyneaux
  • GarageGames: Are we at a place where we can show Garage anything? Michelle is calling the academic liason tomorrow about my course but should she also send an email/place a call to Josh, our accessibility contact?
  • E for All: This still might be a go. It's in LA Oct 18-21 and Michelle is calling Pattie Renouard and Mary Dolaher who are part of the team running it later today
  • Gamers Documentary: Has anyone who was cc:ed on the general email about the gamer diversity project heard anything else from Melissa at Mekanism?
  • Microsoft Game Fest: Everyone should pay particular attention to the Games for Everyone section. We need to approach them about what they mean by "everyone." More reason to get the Gamasutra article out sooner than later so we ride the current wave.
  • Gamasutra Article: Reid -- take it away!

[edit] Meeting Summary

[edit] Google Calendar

Thomas set up a google calendar for people to subscribe to and we are working on a way for the system to send email meeting reminders to the list.

[edit] GarageGames

According to Reid, we are now at a place with the Torque[cc] prototype (coded by Eelke with feedback by Barrie and Reid) to contact Josh Dallman at GarageGames. Reid, cc-ing Eelke, is going to email Josh to get his input on what more we can do on the [cc] project to help them and Michelle will email about "next steps" for other features for Torque. Richard and I will be meeting with GarageGames again at next month's GDC Austin for additional brainstorming.

[edit] E for All

Michelle has been following up on the E for All expo and the latest news is that she will be talking to the expo manager on Wednesday. Things look promising. Once confirmation has been made, Michelle will be asking for SIG participants and gamers with disabilities to help demo the work of SIG members at the Expo.

[edit] Gamers Documentary

Note: This is only applicable to those in LA or San Francisco. Michelle has followed up with the folks doing the diversity in gaming documentary and is waiting for a reply. So far we've only heard that filming has been pushed back to fall.

[edit] Latest at Microsoft

Microsoft seems to be turning the tide towards more inclusive games. Michelle will contact former colleagues for information on how the SIG can help.

[edit] Games for All Initiative

Reid and Michelle are working on a paper for Gamasutra about extending our SIG message to Games for All, without losing sight of our mission to support gamers with disabilities who may not be able to play without an overwhelming amount of peripherals and even more simple controls. This follows Eelke's work on extending difficulty levels to include novice and disabled gamers. There will, of course, always be exceptions and we are the ones to help those who will still fall outside these parameters.
