The curriculum framework presented by the IGDA Education SIG is a conceptual guide for game-related educational programs. Developed by a cross-disciplinary committee of educators and developers, the current version of the Curriculum Framework can be downloaded in .pdf format:

Though the field of game studies is young, the number and variety of game-related educational institutions is already vast. No single curriculum can apply to them all. The original framework, therefore, presents a modular approach, rather than a single detailed curriculum. The framework describes knowledge areas and practical skills required to make and study games, in a format that can be adapted to the resources and curriculum offerings of a range of institutions. As a practical document, the Framework is designed to assist educators and students on a variety of levels -- from the creation of individual courses to the development of full degree programs, within a single department or across several. It is also a guide for students creating individualized courses of study at institutions without game-related majors.

The current task of the curriculum committee is to develop Degree Frameworks which draw from the various knowledge areas of the Curriculum Framework. In such a complex set of fields, there is no “silver bullet” approach, andtThese Degree Frameworks will be offered as guidelines, or “usage” cases for the framework. The goal is to create a living Curriculum and Degree Framework that is bound by two guiding principles: 1) be interdisciplinary; 2) inclusive.
