[edit] Details
Every new industry matures in time. We have observed in this industry the familiar, progressive cycle of invention leading to commercialization and study. The medium's academic entrepreneurs are proliferating a broad spectrum of educational activities.
Prior work by the IGDA's Education Committee and the creation of new ludic curricula have structured and set the stage for this next round of effort to identify what exists and is known about the many intersecting disciplines of game development; to link together the corpus. Oft-cited arguments for formal and critical educational pursuits from respected voices both in academia and industry have established a strong need for this volunteer response. I am simply responding and participating as a concerned member of this vital community.
The commercial videogame industry is immature at less than 30 years old; the state of the academy focused on games represents a seedling born from this emerging field, one with many branches and rich variety. Together, industry and academy create a strong and fertile intellectual community. As an institution that binds this community together, the IGDA should provide, as a result of its organizational spirit and endeavors, knowledge resources to inform and express the work and interests of this group.
[edit] Plan of Action
The IGDA Education SIG will produce an accessible, inclusive Knowledge Base to serve as an open library of course materials, media objects, professional guidance, FAQs, searchable documents, and anything that can serve to stimulate, improve and inspire intellectual pursuit in the field of game development.

[edit] Current Status
Encourage contribution to design and content for the knowledge base; provide a forum for discussion and the community's needs; focus volunteer efforts on the steps to launching the ultimate resource for educational pursuit in the field of game development; and put it all into action. We will document our accomplishments for posterity and the betterment of this and other transdisciplinary fields yet to follow in our footsteps.
