[edit] Wiki

  • No one is having problems updating the Wiki (except for lack of time). People should try and add their profiles before the next meeting.
  • Contact Elonka if you need more specific Wiki help.

[edit] Charter / Mission Statement

  • There has been some progress with the Charter. The aim is to have it finished by EOB Friday 5th. Larry and Mike S will polish the text currently available at Online_Games_SIG/Charter and send notification to the group by EOB Thursday 4th May. Any comments or amends should be made by EOB Friday 5th. James will print the new charter in the E3 Edition of the Quarterly.

[edit] 'Membership'/Outreach

JH reported on meeting with Jason Della Rocca in which the following key points were expressed:

  • Sigs are meant to serve as a bottom up tool for IGDA members.
  • Peer resources / a framework to enable developers to come together and connect.
  • SIG activities should really be for IGDA Members
  • 'Top down' activities generally the domain of the main IGDA - i.e. lobbying / policy
  • In general, the SIGs are supposed to be for connecting / sharing / learning / promotion

The Steering Committee debated the meaning of 'membership' with regards to the OG SIG. What constitutes 'membership'?

i A person who is a paid up member of the IGDA and has 'ticked' the OG SIG checkbox to indicate they wish to be a 'member' of the SIG ii A person who is a paid up member of the IGDA and expresses an interest in activities of the OG SIG by showing up to an event should gain access (i.e. the IGDA membership is the fundamental criteria) iii A person who has signed up for the Yahoo Group OG Mailing List but is not an IGDA member (?)

There is currently no single resource for identifying who is an IGDA member and who has 'ticked' the OG SIG checkbox. The Yahoo Group and the IGDA list are currently disparate entities. We should aim to formalize the list into tiers:

- Tier 1 : People who wish to receive our mailings but are not IGDA members - Tier 2 : People who are paid up IGDA members and also wish to be 'members' of the OGSIG - Tier 3 : SIG Committee / Leadership

Jason DR mentioned that a more elaborate mailing list / member DB will be made available through the IGDA to all SIGS, enabling this functionality. Elonka rightly pointed out that rather than waiting for a centralized solution, it has often been prudent to develop our own systems. JH will further investigate the timeframe of this centralized implementation. We agree it is a key step to be able to identify these tiers of membership in order to plan our activities accordingly. PF will investigate current plans for exposing SIG membership/affiliations via IGDA member profile with Jason Della Rocca

Re. SIG budget, the SIG is free to raise and spend money. Money raised by the SIG should be paid to the IGDA, but will be marked as OG SIG money and allocated for future use. Motions are afoot for some allocation of general membership dues to SIGs although this is one or two years out. As noted in the previous meeting, the committee does not support the collection of separate SIG dues.

[edit] Publications

[edit] Quarterly

  • Quarterly WILL be available in printed form by E3 (distribute at IGDA party on Tuesday evening). IBM has paid $1000 to cover printing costs in return for small advert / credit. All to please supply any announcements / call outs for inclusion in the Quarterly by EOB Friday 5th.

[edit] Podcast

  • No update

[edit] Whitepaper

  • BR was to send Word version of 2004 Whitepaper to JM so that JM could begin the task of transferring the Whitepaper to the Wiki. Unfortunately this did not happen but has now been sent. LM volunteered to work with JM on the process of mutating the 2004 Whitepaper into the 2006 Whitepaper due to past experience in the same. JH attempted test of Wiki transfer and created contents page at Online_Games_SIG/PSWpaper
  • We look to Larry and Jay to lead the development of the Whitepaper project, with the idea possibly being to have a 'static' version available for Austin Game Show distribution.

[edit] Website

  • The OGSIG Website (http://www.igda.org/online/)needs review and updating and JH asked for help with getting the next Quarterly online. PF kindly agreed to provide web support to Elonka and will be set up with web access. We will advertise for a volunteer Webmaster through the mailing list and in the Quarterly to take over the management the site. Many SIGS are moving to Movable Type, which while not as pretty as our current site, may provide increased flexibility.

[edit] Forums

  • Will attempt to drive more traffic to forums with the Quarterly. Please add pithy, witty comments to the forums whenever the mood doth take ye.

[edit] Mailing List

  • Seems to be no moderation problems at present.

[edit] Conferences / E3 Activity

[edit] E3 Committee Drinkies

  • Committee Gathering / Drink prior to the main IGDA Party at the Figueroa on Tuesday 9th May. Committee Gathering @ 6pm. Rather than any separate IGDA OGSIG networking event, we will attend the general IGDA party.
