Table of contents

[edit] Overview

Summarize key information about the Special Interest Group. The "Overview" should provide readers with a non-itemized outline of the Group's history, objectives, and membership. The "Overview" should contain keywords appropriate for subtopics. Often, the content in a subtopic can be used for other subtopics:

[edit] History

Describe the Group's history, organized by time, in paragraph form. For example, the Quality Assurance SIG could read as the following.

Example

On January 20, 2020, the Quality Assurance Special Interest Group (SIG) was established to elevate awareness of Software Quality Assurance (SQA), improve and standardize the SQA practice, provide a community for SQA scholars and professionals.

Notice the above historical text describes the Group's objectives?

[edit] Objectives

If the "History" subtopic contains information about the Group's objectives, and such is suggested, then outline the Group's objectives using the bulleted list format.

Example

The Quality Assurance Special Interest Group focuses on:

  • elevating awareness and enhancing understanding of SQA,
  • improving and standardizing the SQA practice, and
  • providing a community for SQA scholars and professionals.

[edit] Membership

Describe the Group's target audience. That is, describe who the Group is concerned with enlisting for voluntary support. The Quality Assurance SIG, for instance, is concerned with SQA scholars and professionals instead of "everyone". Some Group’s maintain an Open Door Policy, which means that "membership" can be attained by anyone. Make note of such situations.

A common practice for Special Interest Groups is to list the current membership; however, the IGDAwiki requires editors to acquire permission from private individuals who are SIG members for publishing real names and/or contact information belonging to private SIG members. Public personalities, such as authors and columnists, can be listed, however, without contact information unless authorized. The IGDA respects the privacy of its professional, academic, and volunteer membership.

Job titles should be italicized. The company name should also link to the appropriate website.

[edit] External links

Provide relevant external links. For example, the Quality Assurance SIG article would include:

Example

  • Name of the website
...mission statement-style description of the external link.
  • StickyMinds.com
...an online resource for software professionals concerned with building and delivering better software.
