The IGDA Women in Games (WIG) Special Interest Group (SIG) was formed to create a positive impact on the game industry with respect to gender balance in the workplace and the marketplace. IGDA Women in Games SIG offers community, resources and opportunities to women and men in the games industry, as well as those seeking to break into the business.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
Margaret Mead
Mission
The IGDA Women in Games SIG works to develop methods to support, promote and encourage women currently employed in the industry; to bring awareness and education to both the workplace and the marketplace in terms of influence and value of female game professionals and female players; to assess the numbers of women working in the games industry in a variety of roles, and track changes over time, using a combination of available data and primary research; and to execute a variety of programs to recruit women into the games industry and to make games a more attractive field for women.
Goals
- Development and maintenance of SIG programs, such as mentorship, peer review, research and career development.
- Branded SIG presence at co-partnered events around the world, plus on-going partnerships with complimentary organizations.
- Increased opportunities for SIG members to participate in editorial, speaking engagements and other 'visibility' activities.
- Cooperative efforts with other SIG's to increase awareness and opportunities in education, diversity hiring and talent development.
- Addition of expanded SIG leadership, including an advisory group and project committees.
