IGDA Chapters are one of the primary ways that the IGDA achieves its mission of advancing the careers and enhancing the lives of game developers by connecting members with their peers, promoting professional development, and advocating on issues that affect the developer community.

Chapters provide local outreach, education, and advocacy to the local community through regularly scheduled meetings and events. By being connected with the main organization and other chapters, SIGs, and committees around the world, they are also linked to a global community that can help them keep their members on the forefront of trends in game development.

Chapters help provide the ‘local’ part of the home for game developers worldwide. By having chapters in most major game development areas, game developers know that no matter where their career takes them, they’ll always have a familiar community ready to welcome them home.

Academic Chapters (formerly Student Chapters)

Academic Chapters serve students, faculty, and professors at a specific school, college, or university.

Getting Started

Starting an Academic Chapter on your campus is as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. A minimum of three (3) officers must hold paid IGDA memberships (example: chair, vice chair, treasurer). Those with membership must include the chair. (Faculty advisor is not considered an officer position.)
  2. Have a faculty advisor.
  3. Fill out the form located here: Start an IGDA Academic Chapter.

That's it! If you have any question, please contact

IGDA student memberships always receive student benefits. Even if you don't have the three member minimum for a chapter, you should still consider joining the IGDA. Student members can participate in the IGDA Scholars and are eligible for many of the same benefits as other membership levels.

Professional Chapters

Professional Chapters serve all individuals -- from student to professional, indie to AAA -- interested in game development in a specific geographical region.
